Americanism Programs

Our Annual Field of Honor Program

The Americanism Program of Service promotes pride in our country, appreciation for the freedoms granted to American citizens, and gratitude to the men and women who serve/have served in the Armed Forces. Americanism celebrates the country’s rich, unique heritage and inspires unity from coast-to-coast.

Locally, we have furthered this cause through our renowned, Field of Honor, in Castaways Park.  For over 16 years, the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor has planted 1776 flags in honor of our veterans and sponsors an art and essay contest for the Newport-Mesa school district.

Inspiring Patriotism and Civic Responsibility in Our Youth

The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor proudly sponsors a series of Americanism programs that promote patriotism, civic engagement, and appreciation for the values that unite us as a nation. Through writing, art, and immersive educational experiences, we help young people reflect on what it means to be an American and how they can positively contribute to their community and country.

Field of Honor 5th Grade Student Enrichment Program

Inspiring Patriotism and Honoring Local Heroes Through Youth Engagement

The Field of Honor Student Program is a signature initiative of the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor, designed to engage local youth in a powerful tribute to service, sacrifice, and patriotism. Held during our annual Field of Honor event, the Student Program offers students the opportunity to actively participate in honoring military members, veterans, first responders, and other community heroes through educational and ceremonial activities.

Purpose

The Field of Honor Student Program serves to:

  • Educate students about the importance of patriotism and service
  • Provide a meaningful opportunity for youth to honor heroes past and present
  • Strengthen the connection between schools, civic responsibility, and community service

Program Highlights

  • Student-led ceremonies including Patriotic Art recognitions, Citizenship readings, flag tributes by Girl Scout Troop #5388, and musical performances by Sonora Choir and Pomona Band.

Field of Honor – 2025 Participation

  • This year, we were honored to welcome over 700 5th grade students from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District to participate in the Field of Honor Student Program. Their enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and respectful engagement made this year’s event one of our most meaningful yet.

Community Partners

We are proud to work with a number of local partners to bring this program to life, including:
